Video Essay: A Briefer History of Time
Fusion, February 2015
Based on the ideas of Marshall McLuhan and E.P.Thompson, this video essay looks at the unexpected consequences of mechanised time. This is the first video essay I have made in collaboration with Fusion. It was also turned around a lot more quickly - I produced it from scratch in three weeks (usually a video essay takes about eight weeks). So it's a bit shorter and a bit more simple, but visually I think it is pretty good. Inspired by Dziga Vertov (who even gets a cameo in the essay) I had fun cutting shots of clockwork mechanisms against images of a mechanised society.
