At The Midway

A millennial’s midlife crisis, from a mythological perspective.

Turning 40, I felt a sudden spiritual awakening: an urgent call from my subconscious, telling me there is supposed to be more. Within a year I had a left a partner I love, moved to a new city and quit my job. It was a bewildering, heartbreaking stage of my life, but I had a guide: Joseph Campbell’s book The Hero With A Thousand Faces. This survey of global mythology reveals that the so-called ‘midlife crisis’ is a soul transformation each one of us can undertake, if we choose to cross the threshold. In this collection of articles, originally published between October 2025 and January 2026, I relive the story of my turbulent year from a mythological perspective.
