The Third Something

157 / Everything Has Changed

It’s time to tell you the story of what’s happened to me this year.

Calypso’s Island, Departure of Ulysses, or Farewell to Calypso by Samuel Palmer

Calypso's Island, Departure of Ulysses, or Farewell to Calypso by Samuel Palmer, 1849

I didn’t want to take break from writing these letters but circumstances forced me to put The Third Something to the side for three months.

I am writing again, and I am now ready to tell you the truth about everything that has happened to me this year.

Because 2025 unfolded to be both the hardest and most transformative year of my life. It has been a year of visions and sacrifices; of leaps and revelations; of death and rebirth, Laistrygonians, Cyclops, wild Poseidon, all. By the end of this year I will have surrendered everything I cherished at the beginning. No part of me will come out alive.

Before you get too concerned: I am physically and mentally healthy; strangely, perhaps, I am even happy.

But something — very deep, very still — has changed.

✹

A lot of you have told me over the years that you really appreciate when these letters are at their most honest and personal. And so I’m going to tell you the whole story, even the parts that don’t make me look good, and I’m going to do my best to tell it to you straight.

It’s going to take a while so, for the rest of the year, this newsletter will drop more frequently - weekly or fortnightly. If you are new here, you can subscribe for free by clicking here. The best way to read them is directly on my website and there is a good old-fashioned RSS feed if you’re into that.

If anything resonates with you, you can always click reply or send me a note.

(By the way, there will be no PDF or course on sale at the end of this. I’m telling the story because, well, I don’t really know what else to do.)

It all started with a dream. That’s where my next letter begins.

Until another Sunday soon,
